TBILISI (BPI)- “The planned amendments to the labor legislation will cause irreparable harm to Georgia’s employers, employees, the business climate, and the country’s economy,” the Business Association says commenting on the amendment package to the Labor Code submitted to Parliament for consideration.
The Association opposes the clauses that include working hours cuts and restrictions on overtime work, traineeship, definition of the minimum wage, and expansion of the labor inspection authority.
According to the Association, if adopted, these amendments will inevitably cut jobs, salaries, increase business expenses and prices.
“The amendment package exceeds the EU standards, as most EU countries consider such changes too radical and a gross interference in relations between employers and employees. It’s worth mentioning that the amendments are considered without analyzing their possible consequences and the harm they can cause to the business and the country, ”the Business Association’s statement says.
