TBILISI(BPI)- In the second quarter of 2020, 15,600 people joined the ranks of the unemployed compared to the second quarter of 2019, of which 11% were men and 89% were women.
According to ISET, the economy lost only 43,800 hired workers; additional 9,600 people became self-employed, while 15,600 people joined the those out of work.
Compared to the second quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in men increased by only 0.1 percentage points, in women – by 1.8 percentage points.
In the second quarter of 2020, mainly women joined the ranks of the self-employed (out of 9,600 additional self-employed, 9,100 (95%) were women).
It’s worth mentioning that 99% of the 43,800 citizens out of work are women. Compared to the second quarter of 2019, 43.4 thousand fewer women and 0.4 thousand fewer men are employed in 2020.
