TBILISI(BPI)- The quality of democracy in Georgia has deteriorated in the Democracy Index 2019 – a list of the most and least democratic countries in the world. In 2019 Georgia remained in the category of hybrid regimes.
in 2018 Georgia received a score of 5.5, down to 5,42 in 2019. Georgia is ranked 89th of 165 nations and two territories as well as last year that is the lowest score since 2012.
Georgia has slipped in the ranking since 2018. Georgia ranked 82nd in 2016, in 2018 it was ranked 79th, and in 2018 Georgia slipped to 89th place .
In the Democracy Index 2019 Georgia has lost the status of a regional leader. Armenia is ranked 86th awarding a score of 5.54, which is the highest score in the region.
The twelve edition of the Democracy Index finds that the average global score has fallen from 5.48 in 2018 to 5.44. This is the worst average global score since The Economist Intelligence Unit produced the Democracy Index in 2006.
