TBILISI(BPI)-Agara Sugar has suspended operation again. About 400 employees have lost job places. Alkhan Alizade, the company director general, talks about the suspension details for BM.GE.
‘We had to fire about 400 employees … I cannot talk about other details. The factory does not work and I do not know when it will resume operation”, Alizade said.
The factory was closed several other times under the pretext the Georgian products could not compete with imported analogues.
For the last time, the company resumed operation on June 1 after, with the engagement of trade unions and the business ombudsman, when Agara Sugar and Government achieved agreement, but details were not unveiled again.
According to spread information, after negotiations Government set certain preferences to the company, including Georgian railway lowered shipping tariffs to 3.58 USD per ton up to the 31th of December, 2018.
„By mutual consent, the Parties prepared the Agara Sugar company assistance package. As a result, the factory resumed operation valuably”, the Business Ombudsman’s Office reported in June 2018.
No other detailed information is available.
BM.GE decided to obtain detailed information from various government offices, but in vain, none of them turned out to have detailed information around the company.
