WHO praises Georgia’s response to coronavirus

TBILISI(BPI)- A telephone conversation was held between President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili and the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

President’s Administration reports that the phone call was held by the initiative of the President of Georgia and the two discussed the recent situation in connection with the novel coronavirus in the country.

“The Director General of the World Health Organization has confirmed that the organization will continue to provide technical and expert assistance to Georgia in the process of defeating the new coronavirus. He praised Georgia’s response to the threat of the spread of coronavirus.

Salome Zurabishvili noted that Georgia is following the recommendations of the World Health Organization and that the situation in the country is under control.

The Director General of the World Health Organization noted that the organization will continue to work in close coordination with the Georgian authorities. He thanked the President of Georgia for the measures taken by the Georgian authorities to prevent the novel coronavirus and said that today’s communication is a demonstration of full readiness for cooperation and high political will.

During the conversation the importance and necessity of protection against the risks of spreading the coronavirus among the inhabitants of the occupied territories were discussed. According to the head of the World Health Organization, the organization will use all the resources at its disposal to protect the population of the occupied territories from the pandemic,” the Administration of the President said in a statement.
