TBILISI(BPI)- It is somewhat ironical that BMW was among the pioneers in bringing luxurious SUV models but they are now somewhat outshined by others in the segment. To grab back the market share lost to German and other rivals, BMW is planning an onslaught with the new X7 which is slated for 2018 release. As per the news, the 2018 BMW X7 is going to be the largest ever SUV to be made by the iconic German carmaker. There will be some resemblance with the X5. It will be manufactured at the Spartanburg plant of the company in the USA. BMW is targeting at the major markets including China, the UK, and the USA.
The 2018 BMW X7 will be pitted against rivals like Mercedes-Benz GLS Class, Lincoln Navigator, and Cadillac Escalade. That means it will be a 7 seater car in the full-sized luxury SUV segment. The spy shots have already appeared on the web showing the vehicle’s final version. The usual kidney grille is at the front and the body has a nice blend of curves and sharp contours. It will be made on the company’s well-known Cluster Architecture. The body is thus made of high-strength steel, carbon fiber, and aluminum. It will be longer than existing BMW cars but will still have a sporty feel. It may be offered with different wheel choices.
The cabin is expected to be quite roomy with space for 7 adults though leg room at third row may not be generous. As it is with any BMW flagship model, you can expect plenty of high-quality materials to be used in its cabin. Wood and metal trim can be there with the choice of quality leather upholstery. BMW may also make use of some impressive noise insulation technology to ensure hassle free ride. You can expect plenty of storage cubicles in the cabin to keep numerous small items and Smartphones or tablets etc.
Like all flagship BMW vehicles, the upcoming 2018 BMW X7 is going to be loaded with latest safety and entertainment features. It is not known how many trims will be offered but additional packages will be on offer.
Standard and expected safety features include airbags, parking assistance, and stability control system. A rearview camera is also likely to be included. Top trims may get a more advanced surround-view camera system. BMW features like Traffic Jam Assistant, Parking Assistant, and Night vision may be offered. For extra, you may get rain-sensing wipers, panoramic moonroof, and adaptive cruise control.
The company’s revamped iDrive infotainment system may be offered. This may be controlled through a large 10-inch display. You can expect Bluetooth, USB ports, onboard wifi hotspot, HD radio and Smartphone app integration. For audio, you can get top notch Harman Kardon stereo which is also offered in the X5. Heated and ventilated seats are likely to be included in the 2018 BMW X7.
Like the X5, BMW may also equip the 2018 BMW X7 with additional packages. Examples include a cold-weather package, Premium package and Stand-alone options like rear-seat entertainment system.
2018 BMW X7 – ENGINE RUMORS:
Sources from BMW have indicated that the upcoming 2018 BMW X7 will have engines taken from existing power trains used by the company. However, those engines may be tweaked for the X7. In all likelihood, the company will also launch a hybrid model. Besides, both gasoline and diesel based engines will be used. There is a rumor that the new model will be equipment with 3.0-liter inline six and the 4.4-liter V-8 engine. This engine will develop a 300 hp and 300 pound-feet and 445 hp and 480 pound-feet. The acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph will be in 7 sec, with a top speed of 155 mph.
2018 BMW X7 – PRICE AND EXPECTED RELEASE DATE:
BMW has not said much about the exact price of the 2018 BMW X7. However, it is going to be a premium luxury SUV competing with segment leaders like Maybach GLS and the formidable Bentley Bentayga. So, a starting price of $100,000 is likely to be there. It is likely to be made available for sale in late 2017. BMW may not make it available at all markets at the same time, though.
There is a possibility that BMW will woo the buyers in full-sized luxury SUV segment with the upcoming X7 but the competition is very stiff. The car looks enticing with a stylish design and lavish interior that is replete with modern amenities and cutting-edge safety features. It is also likely to come equipped with powerful and fuel-efficient drivetrains. By pricing it a little competitively, BMW can get the edge over most category rivals.
