WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum to Leave

TBILISI(BPI)- Jan Koum, the co-founder of WhatApp, the Facebook-owned messaging app is leaving over privacy conflict and encryption.

The Washington Post earlier reported about Facbook’s attempt to use WhatsApp personal data and weaken its encryption. According to the Washington Post, Jan Koum will quit his job at Facebook Board of Directors as well.
“It’s been a decade since Brian and I started WhatsApp, and it’s been an amazing journey with some of the best people. But it is time for me to move on,” Koum, WhatsApp’s co-founder said in a post on his Facebook page referring to co-founder Brian Acton. 

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not leave Koum’s post without comment and expressed his thankfulness in his post on Facebook. 

I am grateful for everything you’ have done to help connect the world and for everything you have taught me, including encryption and its ability to take power from centralized systems and put it back in people’s hands. Those values will always be at the heart of WhatsApp.”Zuckerberg said. 

Jan Koum did not give an exact date when he will leave.
